Common Roadblocks

Why You Keep Starting Projects and Never Finishing Them

Momentum doesn't come from starting. It comes from finishing.

Every founder we work with has the same drawer: half-finished projects. The CRM migration. The case study series. The pricing review. The hiring framework. All started with energy, all stalled around 70%.

The problem isn't ambition - it's capacity. When the team is asked to start more things than they can finish, finishing becomes optional. And the cost is invisible at first, then catastrophic.

What "finish before start" actually means

    • A simple capacity model. Each team has a known number of projects it can hold at one time.
    • A prioritisation forum. Where new initiatives get explicitly traded against existing ones, not just added.
    • A finished definition. What does "done" actually mean for this project? Documented, used, handed over.

How to install this without revolt

Don't kill projects all at once. Instead, in your next leadership meeting, list every active initiative and rank them. Pick the top three. Pause the rest publicly with a clear reason. Within a quarter, your team starts to believe that "started" actually means "we're going to finish this."

That belief is what creates momentum. Not new ideas - the discipline of completing the existing ones.
