Common Roadblocks
Why Every New Client Feels Like Starting Over
Bespoke isn't a strategy. It's a tax.
Service businesses love to say "every client is different." Sometimes that's true. Most of the time, it's an excuse for not having done the work to find what's actually the same.
When every project starts from a blank page, three things happen: delivery quality becomes dependent on whoever's running it, margins erode quietly, and your team burns out from constantly reinventing the wheel.
What a repeatable delivery model actually looks like
- A defined kickoff sequence - what happens in week one, every time.
- A standard client communication rhythm - how often, in what format, by whom.
- Clear stage gates - when does discovery end, when does delivery start.
- Documented artefacts - the templates, frameworks, and deliverables that show up on every engagement.
How to build yours
Pick your last five clients. Map what actually happened - not what was supposed to happen. You'll see the same shapes, the same milestones, the same surprises. Take what worked, codify it, and use it as your default. Customise from there only where genuinely needed.
The best agencies aren't more creative than yours. They're just more disciplined about the parts that don't need creativity.
